WHAT WE DO
The Sussex Golf Partnership, involving the Sussex County Golf Union (Men), Sussex County Ladies Golf Association,
and the Professional Golfers Association, has been set up to promote the Game of Golf in Sussex. It has three main aims:
- To get more people to START playing Golf
- To get more people to STAY playing Golf
- and to enable all players to achieve the level of SUCCESS in the Game that they desire.
HOW WE DO IT
START GOLF - "to get more people to try the game and progress to taking lessons and joining clubs"
The role of the START Committee is to:
- Providing clubs with funding opportunties to encourage new players in to the game
-
Increase the number of links with Communities
-
Extend the current golf work that is being done within schools
-
Arrange golf promotions at external events
-
Undertake annual projects to increase participation in SGP target groups
-
Identify barriers to new players joining golf clubs and suggest ways round them
STAY GOLF - we work with Sussex clubs in a variety of ways to help ensure that new participants/members stay playing the game.
Some initiatives include:
-
Working with Clubs to provide follow-on opportunities for participants who have shown an interest in starting and continuing to play golf at one of our community promotions
-
Advising Clubs on retention initiatives, and providing them with a player retention toolkit
-
Providing funding to help with retention initiatives
-
Ensuring Clubs are as member friendly as possible by helping them towards the achievement of the National GolfMark accreditation
SUCCESS - We run the Sussex Golf Development Academy to give young people coaching support and help the PGA Professionals in Sussex to improve their skills and experience.
We work with the elite coaching schemes in the County to identify emerging talented players and help them to succeed.
GOLFMARK
The Sussex Golf Partnership also works closely with Golf Clubs, helping them to achieve Golfmark - a National accreditation which recognises junior and beginner friendly golf facilities.
Golf Clubs are assessed on coaching & playing, club environment (including sports equity & ethics), child protection & duty of care.
